LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – In the latest issue of Women's Health Magazine, there is a list of so-called Super-Foods that they say women should eat if they are on a diet. Among the foods listed, salmon is at the top. The American Heart Association recommends that people should eat at least two servings a week.
Two other beneficial foods that made the list are olive oil and avocados because they contain the good kind of fat the body needs. Registered Dietitian Sonia Angel explains, "They're very high in mono-unsaturated fats, which reduce triglycerides and cholesterol so they are heart healthy."
Other super foods on the produce aisle include wild blueberries and broccoli, both packed with antioxidants. Red beans also made the list, along with oatmeal, a great source of fiber. Walnuts make the top ten because they contain fiber, protein and vitamin E. Fat free yogurt was high on the list, a bone-building must for women.
Finally, to round out the top ten super-foods is chocolate, but only dark chocolate. It is described as a healthy treat in moderation.
Women's Health Magazine offers a slide show of all the Super Foods that made the list, and you can watch by (clicking here).
