LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - If you follow updates from NewsChannel 11 Sports Director Pete Christy through Pete's Tweets you were the first to know Texas Tech gave Tommy Tuberville the head coaching job at 1:13pm.
It ends a long drawn out process that has been torturous for Red Raider administration, fans and the coaching staff and their families. In the end, Tech opted to go with a proven winner in the SEC in Tuberville over interim head coach Ruffin McNeill, and a little after 8 Saturday night, Tuberville arrived in Lubbock. '
Tuberville smiled as he drove by the media, after a year out of coaching, he wanted this job and knows he can continue the Red Raider tradition in the big 12. Tuberville went to the football complex where he met with Leach's staff of coaches and personnel to decide who is staying and who is going.
Sources tell NewsChannel 11 it is a 5 year deal worth between 1.5 to 2 million dollars a year. Tuberville says he will keep the offensive staff, but the defense needs to improve. With Tuberville expected to bring in a defensive coordinator, they may ask Ruffin McNeill to be a position coach.
NewsChannel 11 has a crew at the sports complex to find out the result of the coach's meeting. Pete Christy will tweet later tonight on kcbd.com what transpires.
Tomorrow, Tuberville will officially be introduced by Texas Tech as the new head coach in a 2 p.m. press conference. NewsChannel 11 will carry the presser live.
