LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – After leading the Red Raiders to victory in the Alamo Bowl, former defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill is no longer with the Red Raiders. Also, no longer with the team is Lincoln Riley, who was the offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders at the Alamo Bowl, and special teams coach Eric Russel, who spent just one season with the Red Raiders.
Several other coaches are also no longer with the staff, but we have learned of those who will stay on under Coach Tommy Tuberville. Offensive line coach Matt Moore will remain in his current position. Moore was a coach on the Troy staff before coming over to the Red Raiders three years ago. Reportedly also staying on staff is defensive line coach Charlie Sadler, Dennis Simmons and Sonny Cumbie.
Tuberville is bringing in former Troy offensive coordinator Neil Brown. NewsChannel 11 has learned that Alabama outside linebackers coach James Willis has agreed in principle to become the defensive coordinator.
Speculations on which current Red Raider coaches would stay and which would go have been looming ever since the firing of former head coach Mike Leach.
