LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Folks came to Lubbock from Amarillo, Midland, Dallas, Houston, and even as far as Phoenix, Arizona to attend the Reach for Leach Rally Thursday.
"A few weeks ago Team Leach was a T-shirt. Look at us now," said Team Leach Spokesman, Blaze Butler. Raider fans of all ages packed Memorial Circle holding signs, wearing Team Leach T-shirts, and chanting to thank Leach for his 10 years as Texas Tech head football coach, and demand answers from the administration. "Well, they may have been able to ignore a T-shirt, but they won't be able to ignore this," Butler said at the Rally.
The group asked University administration to attend and answer their questions, but no administrators accepted the invitation. Fans enjoyed a call from the pirate captain himself. "I just want you to know how proud I was to have the opportunity to be your coach for the last 10 years," said Leach.
Those at the rally say they won't stop pressing for answers until the administration responds, but they think this rally will get their attention. "600 people coming here. 3,000 people watching online. This is exciting," said Team Leach spokesman, Charlie Hodges.
"I'm pretty impressed. I thought it was a great turnout. I'm glad to see the people I've been talking to for two weeks on the Internet in person, and see all the excitement," said Kelly Allbright.
"As things have evolved, Team Leach is not just about Mike Leach anymore. It's about fairness and doing what's right and finding out the truth," said Becky Norton.
Team Leach says now they're keeping an eye on the Leach vs. Texas Tech case which will have a hearing on January 20th.
