Team Leach rally draws hundreds

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's been three weeks since Texas Tech fired head football coach Mike Leach, but Team Leach says it still wants answers.

Organizers say 600 people packed Memorial Circle and another 3000 watched the Team Leach rally live online.

Now that it's all said and done, ralliers hope they were loud enough to get their voices heard.

"As much as we love coach Leach, no man is above Texas Tech University, we just thought, he was pretty darn special," said Team Leach Spokesperson Charlie Hodges.

Memorial Circle was filled with signs, cheers, chants, boo's, and every emotion.

"I just really want to find out answers," said one rallier.

"I graduated from Tech, and I bleed red and black and I just want to make sure the truth comes out," said another.

Team Leach ralliers say they showed up on Thursday to show their support for their favorite pirate but more importantly pressure the Tech administration for answers to why he is gone.

"It's not about bringing him back here, it's about justice it's about doing him right," said one Team Leach supporter.

"The Chancellor, the President, the Athletic Director all declined our invitation," said Hodges.

Even though the Tech administration was M-I-A from the rally, the man in the center of it, made sure his voice was heard.

"Hello?" Hodges asked as he answered his phone.

"Yeah this is Mike Leach," said former football coach Mike Leach.

"Look what he's done for Tech, there is so much there is so much that he's done for them and then to do him, the way that they've done him is just wrong," said another Team Leach supporter.

While Team Leach may not have gotten any answers on Thursday. They say there is a sense of satisfaction in knowing there are still so many behind the winningest coach in Red Raider history.

"I want you to know how proud I was to have the opportunity to be your coach for the last ten years," Leach told the crowd.

So is this the end of Team Leach?  Organizers tell us no, they say not until they feel like they get the whole truth.

They say are now looking forward to the Mike Leach vs. Texas Tech hearing that will take place on January 20th.
