LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Big new developments for popular football coach Ruffin McNeill. Just when it looked the Texas Tech Defensive Coordinator would be out, the University Chancellor personally steps in.
As we've been reporting, Ruffin McNeill was the glue that held Texas Tech football together after the firing of Mike Leach. So when new head coach Tommy Tuberville got the job there was a lot of heartache in the Hub City.
But Chancellor Kent Hance confirms he has offered McNeill a chance to become an Assistant Athletic Director at Tech, should he not find another job he likes. Hance said if that wasn't to Ruffin's liking he'd find him a spot on his staff.
Hance likes and respects McNeill and wants to do what's right. Hance is also giving every fired member of the staff five months severance pay or until they find another job.
