LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Taco Bell is launching a new idea for those struggling with their New Year's resolution to lose weight, which is a new "Drive-thru Diet." That's the way Taco Bell is plugging seven items on its menu, each with less than nine grams of fat.
Most of the seven items in this category has between 20 to 100 calories less than regular menu items. This is possible mostly by substituting salsa for the cheese on the items, and if you're counting calories, every little bit helps. The million dollar question is can you really lose weight at Taco Bell?
"Your nutrients may be compromised, your fiber almost certainly will be, but you could lose weight," said Lisa Richardson, a dietician. "We need variety to meet all our nutrient needs, so any type of diet that is too limiting you will not be successful in the long run, and it may work short term, but in the long run you'll get bored, you won't stick to it and you'll regain."
Lisa says don't assume low calorie meals are always healthy. The Chicken Fresco Burrito Supreme is on the Drive-thru menu because it has just eight grams of fat, but it also has more than 1,400 milligrams of sodium, which is more salt that we're supposed to have in a whole day.
