Woman Dies in an Early Morning Stabbing

A Lubbock man is behind bars tonight, charged with murdering his common law wife. It happened around one o'clock this morning at 5718 Brownfield Drive. According to police what started as a domestic dispute resulted in 26 year old Christina Moreno's death. Moreno was stabbed in the chest multiple times with a kitchen knife.

Police say the suspect, 29-year-old Armando Sandoval, left the scene and tried to take his own life, first with a gun, that didn't go off, then by rolling his vehicle at Highway 87 and 114th Street. Sandoval was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries and released to the Lubbock County Jail Monday morning.

After Sandoval admitted to stabbing Moreno, he was arraigned and charged with murder. He remains in jail on a $200,000 bond.

This is Lubbock's first murder of the year.
