LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian accident Sunday night at 9:20 p.m. in the 3700 block of Avenue Q.
Police have identified the victim as Jose Ursua, 47, and say he was not in the crosswalk while crossing Avenue Q. Ursua suffered critically injuries and was taken to University Medical Center where he later died.
It was not clear Sunday night if the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer, Rodolfo Perez, 23, would face any citations or charges. Police Sergeant J. Taveau tells NewsChannel 11 that the accident is still under investigation.
But Taveau also says the use of the crosswalk might have made a difference. "Your lighting is better at intersections and crosswalks. It's also controlled for pedestrian traffic, because it's in sync with the lights," says Taveau. "And it also tells pedestrians when not to cross in conjunction with the lighting and vehicle traffic."
