LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A collision between a pedestrian and an SUV turns deadly. It's an update to a story we first brought you Sunday night on NewsChannel 11.

We learned early Monday morning that the victim Jose Ursua, 47 died at University Medical Center following the accident.  Lubbock police investigators tell us that the SUV hit Ursua around 9:20 p.m. Sunday when Ursua crossed the street near 38th Street and Avenue Q.

The SUV was headed south on Avenue Q, and Ursua was headed west.  Authorities say he did not cross at the crosswalk located at 38th and Q, and they say Ursua was wearing dark clothing.

Police encourage everyone to use crosswalks to prevent an accident like this. "When you don't cross at a crosswalk, the lighting isn't as good obviously; motorists aren't looking for pedestrians in places where pedestrian traffic isn't common," Lubbock Police Sergeant J. Taveau said.

Right now, there's now word on what, if any charges would be filed against the driver of the SUV.  We'll keep you updated on the latest developments.
