LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – For years NewsChannel 11 has covered the story of CMN Miracle Kid Treasure Downing who is 8-years-old and a cancer survivor. As you know, Treasure depends solely on his grandfather, since his mother and grandmother both died of cancer when he was younger.
Together, Harvey and Treasure sell Avon to their friends at UMC, but Monday night, those "customers" were concerned, when doctors found a spot on Harvey's lung that needed to come out. They also were concerned if he would even make it through the surgery.
"Harvey has lung disease, Emphysema. So that puts him even more at risk just surviving the surgery much less me taking out a part of his lung," said Cindy Jumper, M.D., and the Chair of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.
The good news is Harvey sailed through that three hour surgery Tuesday morning, but he still has a lengthy recovery ahead, at least two weeks in the hospital. If you would like to help, a fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank under the "Benefit for Treasure Medical Fund."
