A decorated gulf war veteran who was condemned in a Lubbock courtroom was executed Tuesday morning.
Louis Jones Jr. was given a lethal injection Tuesday morning at the federal prison in Terre Haute, IN. He was convicted in 1995 for the murder of 19-year-old Private Tracie McBride. The murder happened in San Angelo, but the trial was moved to Lubbock.
Jones claimed exposure to Iraqi nerve gas in the Gulf War caused him to kidnap, rape and kill McBride. A justice department spokesman said President Bush on Monday evening rejected Jones' request to change his death sentence to life in prison without parole.
