LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Recently taking the cake for the Best of the West - Best Upscale Dining, Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse wins over health inspectors as well.

"This is the first time that I've ever received it as a general manager, and it's a good reward for a lot of hard work that all these guys do. My staff does a great job. It would be bad to go back down, so we're going to try to keep it where we're at," says General Manager Rob Tuttle.

And Tuttle says it's that staff that cooked up a perfect score. "We just kept on top of everyday. We have a checklist that we go through and take temps throughout the shifts and just made sure it was up to par," he adds.

So what's sets this steakhouse apart from others? "We prepare them a little different than everybody else. We have the top 10 percent of choice the certified reserve black Angus. We serve them on a 500 degree plate with a little bit of butter asparagus and a potato choice," he said.

Tuttle says they have their customers to thank for the success of Las Brisas. "We put a lot of pride and effort into our menu items and our wine list and our customer satisfaction. We always want to strive to hit 100 percent satisfaction," he adds. 

Buckle up as we take a ride to America's favorite drive-in. Sonic at 5202 50th Street bags up a flawless inspection.

Now to a name we've seen at the top of the list before - but this is a new location. Dickey's Bar-B-Q 5217 98th Street opened late last year and is already tasting perfection.

"We have the basics: brisket, chicken, sausage, ribs and we also have turkey and ham. And we have about 17 sides," says General Manager Daniel Pasina.

Pasina says that's not the only difference you'll see at this Bar-B-Q joint. Cleanliness and customer service is part of their winning recipe. "Trying to keep up with the staff, trying to keep everything as neat and nice as possible. So we try to stay on top of our cleanliness a lot. We think, customers first, business next then ourselves," adds Pasina.

And we top off this list of top performers with a sweet treat. Smoothie King at 3723 19th blends up a perfect score.

Now to our only low performer. Inspectors cited Josie's at 5101 Aberdeen with six critical violations.

  • Cooked potatoes were cooling at room temperature
  • A cooling unit was not keeping food cold enough. The report shows the ambient temperature of the unit was 52 degrees.
  • Two refrigerators did not have a thermometer.
  • An unlabeled toxic item was on a rack above clean dishes.
  • The handle of an ice scoop was in the ice.
  • and a heavily soiled whisk was with clean utensils.

According to the inspection - most violations were corrected immediately.
