Inside look into the new Godeke Library

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The new Godeke Library is expected to open in just a few days at the old Barnes and Noble location on Slide Road. Toxic mold was found in the Godeke Library on Quaker Avenue nearly a year ago.

Inside the new Godeke library many workers have been very busy trying to get this place ready to open on Monday.

There are still many empty shelves, but when everything is said and done this will be the home of 94,000 books.

While the number of books may be the same as the former location, this old bookstore has almost double the square footage.

Library director Jane Clausen tells us there will be larger children's and young adult reading areas.

"It's quite a bit more space and it is really open and it's bright so we just expect people to come in and see what it is all about," said Clausen.

Not much has changed from when this space was Barnes and Noble, but city contractors did replace the flooring.

There is still a layout of a cafe, but Clausen tells us at this time there are no plans of reopening a coffee shop.

The library is expected to open this Monday as long as everything goes as planned.
