LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A major national study indicates a surprising new trend in teen pregnancy rates.
"The teen pregnancy rates have actually jumped for the first time in the last few decades," said Heather Boonstra, with the Guttmacher Institute.
The Guttmacher Institute is a reproductive health think tank and its studies indicate teen pregnancy is on the increase by 3%, compared to a sharp decline of more than 40% back in the 1990's. The Institute says a focus on abstinence only sex education is not working and that kids need real information including the facts about birth control.
By the way, the increase in teen pregnancy wasn't limited to one racial group, rates increased among Whites, Hispanics and African American teens.
