LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Tuesday was the second of a series of public meetings looking into the feasibility of a potential outer route for Lubbock. Due to traffic demands and priorities, the south and west portions of Lubbock County are the areas being considered for the new route.
This would include the Shallowater area on Highway 84 and around to the Slaton area. The planning for an outer route is in the very early stages, and TxDOT Director of Planning and Development Steve Warren says public input is crucial in the planning process.
"The public is interested in this and there are a lot of land owners that come to these things because as you can imagine a farmer might not be too crazy about a freeway cutting through his land. On the other hand, somebody that has bought some land might like to see developed might be very interested in having a freeway type facility there," says Warren.
TxDOT says it is starting the planning process early in order to determine what kind of needs there will be 30 years in the future.
