Xcel Energy prepares for wintry storm to hit the South Plains

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - With the impending wintry storm that is expected to hit the South Plains, ice may be a factor, along with the winds. With those two elements, we could likely see power outages.

Xcel Energy says that they are on top of it, including the mobilization of all available power crews and contractors.

Xcel will also call on support from neighboring utilities if necessary. They are calling on suppliers of utility poles and other equipment, that could be needed to make quick repairs.

They are also reserving all available phone lines, and additional agents to handle increased volume at their call centers.

Xcel is mobilizing tree trimmers to assist in removing fallen trees and branches.

If you experience an outage, be sure to inspect the damage at a distance, safety should always be your first concern.
