This week inspectors had a full helping of kitchens to look into. So with 28 local food establishments on the agenda, who's on top and who's not? There's trouble under those golden arches, we'll get to that in a moment. First let's head to the border and satisfy that sweet tooth. Here's what's shakin' in this edition of NewsChannel 11's Food for Thought.
We get started at Mexico Border Grill at 4620 50th Street. Inspectors found zero critical violations and that makes them a Food for Thought Top Performer. Next it's on to Sweet Temptations, this local bakery earns a perfect score and a spot on the Top Performing list.
The only Low Performer this week is McDonald's at 8011 Slide Road. That's where four critical violations were found.
Chicken nuggets found at 137 degrees. Hot food must be kept at 140 degrees or hotter.
Pickles and other food items as well as cleaning pads were found in the hand washing sink.
Raw steak was found stored in the same tray with bagels and wiping cloths were stored on food prep counters.
Thermometers were not properly working.
Other violations included heavily soiled reach in coolers, soiled food containers, soiled food contact surfaces including shelves and counters, soiled floors in the freezer and walk in cooler, and trash and boxes on the floor in the back of the food prep area.
The Manager at McDonald's told us all violations were corrected on site. The report states that as well.
