LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Schoolyards were bare and playgrounds untouched Friday as more than 40,000 area kids awoke excited that school had been canceled.
"It was amazing. I was like so excited. I just cant explain it, it was so so amazing," said student Devon Reyes who said he spent the day playing Xbox and going to the mall.
"We got a text message from everybody, 'no school tomorrow!' and we screamed, and we had a big sleep over," said three Lubbock Cooper students.
Instead of homework and class, students enjoyed the day doing whatever they pleased. Most of the neighborhoods around town were bare, but students could be seen at the South Plains Mall or at the movie theaters with friends and family.
However, there were a few brave kids who dared to go out in the cold. When asked what she wanted to do today, five year old Kaitlyn Duncan said she wanted to play in the snow, "um make a snowman, make an angel," she said.
Others broke out the four wheelers and drug sleds behind them, taking full advantage of their snow day. To show us how your kids spent their day off, you can send us pictures at senditto11.kcbd.com.
