West Texas charity raises money for scholarships

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Saturday night the 100-Black Men of West Texas hosted their 15th annual scholarship fundraiser and gala. This year's gala motto is "what they say is what they'll be." The goal tonight was to raise enough money to triple last year's scholarship awards.

"It's a scholarship event that will build scholarship funds for local students who would like to attend Texas Tech, and somehow they may not have the means, but they have the academics to be in the school and perform well. We want to make sure that we give them the opportunity," said Anthony Darty with the charity's organizing board.

The group also chose Ruffin McNeil and T.J. Patterson as distinguished honorees because of the humble, yet amazing role models examples they continue to exhibit.
