One local city & one local business fined, environmental violations

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The city of Wellman is fined by the TCEQ or Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

According to TCEQ, the city "failed to maintain adequate safeguards to prevent the discharge of untreated or inadequately treated wastes during electrical power failures" at its wastewater treatment facility.  The Wellman Mayor signed an agreed order, in which the city denies wrongdoing, but agrees to pay a fine and make corrections.

Also the TCEQ fined a Lubbock businessman $212 for a paperwork violation and failure to properly operate disinfection equipment to state standards.  Reyes Cantu, doing business as Spirit Ranch Café, signed an agreed order with TCEQ.
