The new Godeke Library is now ready for business

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The doors to the new Godeke Library opened at noon on Monday, and they are ready for business.

This was not the official grand opening, that will come at a later date. They are still awaiting the sign for the front of the building for the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting.

The location for the new Godeke Library is at the old Barnes and Noble location, off of Slide Road and Loop 289.

This "soft" opening is all thanks to library staff working diligently to get the library up and running.

All last week workers spent the day stocking shelves and setting up books. The new Godeke Library has almost double the square footage than the old location and will host 94,000 books.

The original Godeke, located on 66th and Quaker, closed down suddenly about a year ago after toxic mold was found in the building.

The new location of Godeke is open for use, books are ready to be checked out and the computers are up and running.
