Regents meet ahead of Leach settlement rumors

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Texas Tech posted public notice Monday of a Wednesday afternoon Regents meeting.  It comes amid rumors of a possible settlement between Tech and fired football coach Mike Leach.  Only two substantive items are on the agenda.

The first is an executive session (or closed door session) for "Discussion of pending and potential litigation involving Texas Tech University System; and otherwise to consult with and seek the advice of legal counsel."

The second part is open to the public for, "Consideration of appropriate action, if any, on items discussed in Executive Session"

The agenda indicates Regents might attend the meeting by phone rather than in person.  Both sides are obligated to complete court-ordered mediation no later than Friday of this week.   Both sides are also under a gag order and so neither side is commenting about a possible settlement.

Back on January 20th, Leach's legal team said to questions of a possible settlement, "We're always ready to listen."

Leach filed for a restraining order against Texas Tech after he was suspended and converted his petition into a full-blown lawsuit after he was fired the last week of December.
