LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Helmets have long been recommended for anyone on a bicycle or skateboard, but new research suggests skiers and snowboarders should use them as well.
Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death and serious injury among skiers and snowboarders. There are some who believe helmets may put skiers at a greater risk for a neck injury during a crash, especially children.
After reviewing 12 studies, a report in the Journal of the Canadian Medical Association says helmets reduce head injuries by 35% with no increased risk of injury to the neck.
