LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a mother and her 12-year-old daughter found Monday afternoon in a home in West Lubbock County.

Deputies were called to the home at 9719 CR 6940 about five miles north west of Wolfforth and just off of west 50th Street at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

A concerned neighbor told NewsChannel 11 they hadn't seen the mother and daughter in several days and knocked on the door three different times Monday. No one answered, and that's when the neighbor decided to call police.

The mom and teenage daughter, whose names have not been released, were seen through a window by a Lubbock County Deputy. One of them was lying on the bed. They described her as non-responsive and then entered the home.

The Sheriff's office says they could not immediately identify the two females because they had been left there for several days. "We've got to take in a lot of different factors into that from the condition of the residence, temperatures inside the residence, and other variables that were involved at that point. It just made identification at this point or at least as of last night impossible," said Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe.

A source close to the investigation says this may be a murder/suicide. Authorities have not officially confirmed that yet. Officials did say there was not forced entry into the home and that they do not have any suspects at this time. Rowe also confirmed shots had been fired at the home. "Right now we know there was gun shots involved but again until we have the autopsy results we're not going to have really definitive information," said Rowe.

Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death. Deputies are calling these deaths suspicious and the case is being worked as a homicide.

Frenship ISD officials confirm that the house where the two females were found is in the Frenship School District. They could not confirm whether the 12-year-old daughter attended Frenship Schools. Officials with FISD did say that counselors will be available with any tragedy involving a student.
