LISD announces weather makeup day

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The LISD Board of Trustees voted on Tuesday to make Friday, February 12, as the weather makeup day for LISD students, to make up for the missed day because of icy weather last week.

Currently, February 12 is a student holiday and teacher work day. School districts are required to make up school days missed because of weather related class cancellations.

Trustees opted to utilize the February 12 day and save the remaining weather makeup day on April 2 in the event another round of bad weather forces an additional cancellation. Weather forecasters predict this to be a very wet winter due to the El Nino weather pattern.

Officials at the National Weather Service in Lubbock said January 2010 was the seventh wettest January since records began being kept in 1911. Precipitation in Lubbock in January 2010 was almost three times more than the average January.
