New details in investigation of two females that were found dead near Wolfforth

Lubbock, TX (KCBD) – Autopsy results should shed more light on the deaths of a Wolfforth mother and daughter, but there is no word on when the results will be complete.

Although authorities haven't released their names officially, family members believe Karen Holton and 12-year-old Shelby were found dead in the same room of their house Monday. Officials believe they were shot to death.

Deputies responded to the home just northwest of Wolfforth around 5:30 p.m. Monday after a neighbor said he had not seen the two for several days.

Investigators are trying to determine if the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. "Right now we know there was gun shots involved," says Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe.  "But again, we're going to have to wait until we have the autopsy results. We're not going to have really definitive information."

Family members say Shelby attended Terra Vista Middle School in Wolfforth. Frenship school officials cannot confirm that information but say counselors will be on hand to assist students for the possible loss of a classmate. "It's a tough time anytime something like this happens to the youth in our community. It doesn't really matter what school they go to," said Frenship ISD Public Relations and Information Director Andy Penney.

"Our counselors they're ready, they're available, just like always are and of course right now they're ready and available for those students who need some body to talk to," Penney added.

We'll continue to follow this investigation and bring you the latest as it becomes available.
