LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – NewsChannel 11 searches court records and uncovers new information about the victim's of a homicide case in Western Lubbock County. The Medical Examiner says the preliminary examinations are finally done, and the mother has officially been identified.
The cause of the deaths or the official nature of the case for the mother and daughter have not been released, for example; is this double murder or a murder suicide.
The mother, Karen Jean Holton, and daughter, Shelby, were found dead by Deputies in the same bedroom in their home Northwest of Wolfforth.
Deputies say gun shots were fired, but there was no forced entry into their home.
The medical examiner told NewsChannel 11 that the preliminary examinations on the mother and her 12-year-old daughter are finally done, but they still need to address several issues surrounding the suspicious deaths before more information can be released.
Deputies are still investigating the case as a homicide; however, sources do say they may be dealing with a murder suicide.
At this time, authorities say there are no suspects.
NewsChannel 11 has also uncovered information about 12-year-old Shelby's school attendance. The documents discovered at the Lubbock County Courthouse show a startling pattern that dates all the way back to September.
We know investigators are not sure how long the two had been dead in the house, but these documents may narrow that timeframe and show the last time Shelby's mother may have had contact with anyone.
NewsChannel 11's Tiffany Pelt is continuing to work on that story and will bring you the details coming up tonight on NewsChannel 11 at 10.
