Rescue caught on tape: SUV into Buffalo Springs Lake

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - NewsChannel 11 caught on camera an amazing rescue after a woman drove her SUV into Buffalo Springs Lake on Saturday.

Rescuers say the SUV went into the water around 7:40 p.m. Saturday by the bridge that separates the lake. Buffalo First Responders stabilized the vehicle and then pulled the driver, Keli Landers, to safety.

It took them about an hour to get the SUV out of the lake. Landers says she was simply trying to make a u-turn to avoid mud and wound up in the water. "I think this is only the second car I've heard of in the water in the three years I've lived here. Last one was when it flooded," said Assistant Chief Kade Garner.

Garner says an ambulance did take Landers to the hospital for evaluation, but he did not think she suffered any serious injuries.

Landers told fire crews she had a dog in the car with her. They had not been able to find the dog by late Saturday night, but the dog has since been found.
