FAA still searching for cause of ILS interference at the Lubbock Airport

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -  Federal Officials continue the hunt for whatever is causing the interference with the safety equipment at the Lubbock airport.

The FAA has a test plane that is circling Lubbock that is looking for the source of the interference that has rendered the ILS inoperable.

The ILS is used for landing planes safely when there is bad weather.

Without it, planes cannot land in low visibility and that has caused flight delays and cancellations for the last 10 days.

The FAA tells NewsChannel 11 that all of their tests seem to indicate the system is working. Yet, when pilots have to use it, problems have been reported.

The interference could come from old power lines or local businesses. It could even come from trucks going up and down the interstate.

The FAA promises an update as soon as possible. NewsChannel 11 continues to follow this story and will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
