LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The World Health Organization is recommending that the 2010 flu vaccine include protection against the 2009 pandemic H1N1 flu virus. The two separate vaccines used this past season, one for seasonal flu and one for Swine Flu, people needed to get two doses of them and kids needed three.
With the new recommendation, drug makers that still have bulk H1N1 vaccine will be able to use it for the 2010-2011 flu season, adding it to the formula for the seasonal flu vaccine. It's still unclear whether flu strains will be combined into one shot, or split into two again. Although current cases of Swine Flu have been declining for more than a month, WHO officials have not officially declared the pandemic over.
