Food for Thought Report 2.18

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Our first stop on the menu this week brings us to 98th and Quaker where the sky's the limit. "Top performer was a big deal to us. We wanted to make sure that we got off on the right foot," manager Brad Nichols said.

Open just a few weeks, Blue Sky Texas at 4416 98th is already winning over hearts of Lubbockites. "Everything we make is from the heart of Texas, and that's why we call it Blue Sky Texas. It's a good 'ole home made burger and fries, onion strings, with a good milk shake to top it off."

The original Blue Sky in Amarillo has been tempting taste buds for years, and when they decide to expand it was an easy choice of where to go next. "We are finally glad that it's open, and it's going pretty good. We feel that we have opened up one of the best burger joints in town."

From the buns to the burgers, Brad says part of what makes them so good is that everything is hand-made. "We roll our own patties. We hand bread everything. That's kind of our brag is that we don't have anything pre-packaged here. We actually do everything ourselves in the mornings."

And when it comes to cooking up a repeat performance Brad says they'll continue to use the same winning recipe. "We're going to keep doing the same thing that we have been doing. It's been working for us so far. We just want to make sure that our customers are happy, and obviously we want to keep them coming back."

To spice up the list, we head south to find our next top performer.

Owned and operated by a Texas Tech alum, Lujan's at 101st and Slide makes a repeat appearance on the Food for Thought list. This long-time Lubbock favorite has been serving tacos, enchiladas and chile rellenos and more since it opened in 1991.
