UBS off urgent appeal, but donations still needed

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The month of February is National Heart Awareness month and in honor of it why not give the best gift from your heart.  Lubbock United Blood Services asks you to, Find The Hero In You, by giving the gift of life.

Lubbock is home of two major hospitals and several clinics that use blood every day to save lives.  Les Long with United Blood Services here in Lubbock says their short supply of blood has marked them with urgent appeals several times throughout the month of February.  This means they could not give the blood supply that the hospitals requested.

"It's just been a really tight month I'm not exactly sure why, I guess all I can say is, is that the use at the hospital has been greater than the number of donations coming through the door," Long said.

As of right now at the United Blood Service enough people have donated that Lubbock has been taken off the list of urgent appeals, but Long expects they could be back on that list as early as Monday if the South Plains residents don't start donating.
