LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Social networking has made its way inside the operating room. A Florida hospital says that they are using Twitter to give family members updates on patients while in surgery.
"We're able to be inside the surgical room while a patient is having surgery, Tweeting out updates." "Things like, 'Doctor has made the first incision', or 'The patient is sleeping,'" says Michele Nitter, Marketing Director for Fawcett Memorial Hospital.
Due to HIPPA laws, the patient can only be referred to as "Patient of doctor so-and-so". But, it's a new idea that is apparently appreciated by family members waiting anxiously in another room for any update at all.
