Community Medical School has a lesson on "dying well"

By Kristin Beerman | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The public is invited to medical school this Tuesday and every Tuesday for the next seven weeks.  This week Dr. Tommie Ferrell is teaching the class and the subject is "dying well," because he says the end of life is easier for you and the people you love if you plan for it.

"Because we're nervous about talking about it, we wait until it's too late and then when a person's dying, there are so many decisions for the patient and the family to make, or many times, they haven't even seen it coming, it just hits them so abruptly," said Tommie Ferrell, M.D., with the department of family medicine at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.  "If we actually think ahead towards our deaths, we can make the experience much better."

Community Medical School is this Tuesday and every Tuesday for the next seven weeks at the Texas Tech Health Science Center from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.  Tuition for the whole semester is just $20 and you can pay at the door.  For more information, please call 743-2008.
