The Lubbock County Medical Examiner is investigating the death of a jail inmate. 30-year-old, Janie Lee Pierce of Lubbock was scheduled for transfer to the Huntsville prison when the medical team at the Lubbock Sheriff's Department noticed she wasn't well. EMS took her to University Medical Center on Wednesday. She died in the ICU around 7 Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning an autopsy was performed on Pierce but at this time the cause of her death is unknown.
Pierce was in jail for prostitution, and according to jail officials had Hepatitis C and fainting spells.
