Fire Destroys Home: Cause Could be Playing with Matches

Playing with matches may have caused thousands of dollars in damage inside a Lubbock home Thursday afternoon. Seven people were inside a house in the 2300 block of Avenue U when the fire started. Assistant Fire Marshall Marlin Hamilton says a child playing with matches likely started the fire.

Hamilton says all seven people were sleeping when it started. But everyone escaped unharmed. Hamilton says the fire caused about $24,000 in damage.

Thursday night the Red Cross was helping everyone staying in the house find a place to stay.
