Consider This... Tech Terrace Parties Go Too Far

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - We all know college kids party. We know most homeowners like a quiet neighborhood. And when those two things collide, you get what we got with Tech Terrace. And it's now gone from annoying to dangerous.

Last weekend a 62-year-old resident said she was assaulted by a drunk college student in her own front yard. She claims this female came from a party across the street, attacked her with a broken beer bottle, before forcing her to the ground. And this happened while the neighbor was checking on another girl who appeared to be passed out in the grass.

The resident says this kind of partying happens several times a week at the same house. Since then, Lubbock City Manager Lee Ann Dumbauld says she will meet with Tech Terrace neighbors this week about the problem.

So consider this: it's not like college parties in Tech Terrace are a new problem. I would suggest a more aggressive approach, perhaps a "party curfew," if you will. Let's set up some special guidelines for this neighborhood that everyone must follow and enforce them. I realize Tech students and Tech Terrace homeowners must co-exist, but at some point we have to draw the line.

I promise you, if a city councilperson or any city management owned a home next door, neighbors would never have to worry about their property, much less their personal safety.
