LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A report in the New England Journal of Medicine says some of the medical volunteers who went to help these patients in Haiti are finding when they come home, that they now need help themselves.
"So when we try to organize volunteers, we're trying to encourage kind of rebuilding, restructuring, understanding, and then finding other ways to cope," said Dr. Carl Eisdorfer, a psychiatrist. "That's why I'm calling it psychological first aid."
The report was written by doctors at the University of Miami, who are learning to cope themselves with what they saw as volunteers in Haiti.
