Food for Thought Report 2.25

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It was a busy week for Lubbock health inspectors. They checked out the cleanliness of 79 local restaurants.

Stripes at 533 North Frankford is our only low performer this week. Health inspectors cited the store with seven critical violations.

  • Pico was thrown out because it was nearly 60 degrees. Cold foods must be 41 degrees or below.
  • Beans were not at least 135 degrees.
  • Employees did not wash their hands before putting on gloves.
  • The hand sink was dirty.
  • Cans on the shelf for sale were dented. The inspector found a wet, soaked box of diced ham in the walk-in cooler.
  • All the microwaves were dirty on the inside and multiple utensils were dirty.
  • The report states the manager did not demonstrate food safety knowledge.

According to the report, all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.

Stripes also appears at the top of the list. The 806 34th Street location had a perfect inspection.

Next if a juicy burger is on the menu, head to Bill's Drive In at 1912 Clovis Road or Hub City Burger House at 5107 29th Drive; both grilled up a perfect score.

Two Italian hotspots heat up the list this week - Fazoli's at 4008 82nd and Orlando's at 6951 Indiana.

And our next top performer is smokin'. J&M BBQ at 3605 34th tops the list yet again.

As does our next stop. Granny Katz Tearoom at 6409 Indiana is a repeat top performer.

Family or friends coming to town? Holiday Inn Lubbock Park Plaza at 3201 S. Loop 289 cooks up a perfect score.
