Food on United grocery shelves will be graded for nutritional value

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Just like a student taking a test, food will be graded at United Grocery Stores as well as Market Street and Amigos.  United will soon use something call the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System.

Everything gets a grade on its nutritional value between 1 and 100 with 100 being the best.  All six of the company's Dallas-Fort Worth area Market Street stores will feature the NuVal system by mid-March, and the company plans to have all 50 stores outfitted with the new system by the end of the year.

NuVal is based in Braintree Massachusetts and United says its scores are made without influence from food manufacturers.
