LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The demolition has begun on the former location of the Godeke Library at 66th and Quaker.
Earlier this month, the Lubbock City Council gave the go-ahead to demolish the former Godeke Library. The library closed a year ago after mold was found throughout the building.
"We were able to reuse the site, reuse the slab because it will be an outdoor memorial and then our public safety memorial officials will be able to use that and build a very nice memorial to our public safety folks," says Mark Yearwood, City of Lubbock CIO.
The memorial will honor all Lubbock and area public safety professionals, including those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The demolition is expected to be complete sometime in April.
