Guadalupe Neighborhood Association tries to raise money for attorney

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Protesters against a concrete plant - gather to hire an attorney. Residents against the new plant on Avenue K - met to try to raise money to hire an attorney so they can sue the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This comes after several residents from the Guadalupe Neighborhood Association filed complaints because they were concerned about possible health risks due to the plant's location.

Carlos Quirino with the Guadalupe Neighborhood Association says, "Our concern is that this will be the 5th cement company in and around our neighborhood and we feel like we have to, you know, make sure that these types or of companies don't come in at the expense of our children and the elderly which are more susceptible to respiratory illnesses."

The group needs to raise five thousand dollars to hire a lawyer.
