Lubbock County Commissioners have taken the next major step towards building a new jail. In a special meeting Monday morning the commissioners picked Rosser International out of Atlanta as the architectural firm for the jail.
Four firms presented their designs last week. Sheriff David Gutierrez said they picked Rosser because it offered the best product for the price. Gutierrez says commissioners will now begin contract negotiations with Rosser. They don't expect to have the design finished for at least a year. Construction will take another three to four years after that.
The cost to build the jail is about $83-million.
