2009 LFD firefighter honored

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –  It is an honor that the Lubbock Fire Department says is challenging to award, but each year Interim Fire Chief Mike Kemp says there is someone who rises to the top. Fireman Nathan Klatt's co-workers nominated him for outstanding firefighter of the year and Friday afternoon the Lubbock Fire Department handed him an award.

For the past five years he has fought fires and served the City of Lubbock. Klatt says he was shocked to learn about the award. "This is truly an honor. I never expected or dreamed this would happen. There are so many guys way more deserving then I am so I take it in honor. It's a pleasure working with my crew," says Klatt as he humbly accepted the award.

Chief Kemp says Klatt's character, professionalism, and dedication to make a difference makes him a leader.  This particular individual just rose above everything he does he exemplifies what we want in a firefighter and what we expect of firefighter and it's an honor to have him represent the department," says Chief Kemp.
