LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The 3rd ranked Estacado boys are heading back to the State Tournament in Austin after edging Wichita Falls Hirschi 67 to 64 in overtime.
Estacado trailed by 2 in regulation with 6 seconds left. WF missed a free throw and Clarence Willard went length of court, hitting a shot at buzzer to force overtime. Future Red Raider Kevin Wagner missed 2 free throws late in regulation but made 4 big ones in OT.
Estacado heads back to State where last year they lost title game to Dallas Madison in overtime.
In 2A, Idalou knocked off #5 Jim Ned 51 to 44. Idalou finished 2nd in district to Littlefield, but a day after Littlefield lost to Jim Ned, Idalou topped the Indians after trailing by 5 to start the 4th.
The 2nd ranked Nazareth boys rallied in the 2nd half to top Vega 45 to 36 at South Plains College to win Region 1 title and advance back to State.
The Swifts trailed by 5 at the half but outscored the longhorns 16 to 7 in the third and then 10 to 5 in 4th to win the regional for the 2nd straight year. Nazareth was led by Sage Black's 17 and 15 from Sid Sheffey.
Last year the Swifts lost in the State Title game and now they get a chance at redemption.
Hoop Madness will also follow Estacado, Idalou and Nazareth to Austin with State Tournament coverage brought to you by South Plains College. Here are the matchups:
3A: #3 Estacado vs. #22 Stafford, Thursday at 3:30pm
2A: Idalou vs. #1 New Waverly, Friday at 8:30pm
1A Division II: #2 Nazareth vs. #1 Slocum, Friday at 7pm
