Web site could put children face to face with sex offenders

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott warned parents to keep their children away from a web site that could put them face to face with anyone, including sex offenders.

The site is called chatroulette.com. With a web camera and Internet access, users care paired with random strangers for a video chat. If they click next, they find themselves face to face with a new chat partner.

An undercover investigation by the cyber crimes unit found nearly half of the randomly selected users immediately exposed themselves and conducted sexually explicit acts on camera.

The Attorney General says parents should monitor their children's Internet activities. It's also a good idea to tell your children never to agree to a face to face meeting with someone they meet online or give out any personal information online.
