LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - At the Big 12 Championships, a day after snapping their 7 game losing streak by stopping Colorado, the Red Raiders battled #1 Kansas, but the Jayhawks outlasted the pesky Red Raiders 80-68.
In their regular season meeting the Red Raiders trailed Kansas 42-18 at the half, but this time, Tech wasn't intimidated by the Top ranked Jayhawks….and only trailed by 2 34-32 at the break, playing inspired defense.
The Jayhawks started the 2nd half on a run, opening up a 12 point lead…but Tech didn't roll over…several times hitting huge shots to get right back into it….closing the deficit to 2 with 6 minutes left.
But the Jayhawks hit 2 3's to answer with a 12-0 run to finally pull away late as Tech went scoreless for a 4 and a half minute stretch.
Tech falls to 17-15 but with big wins over ranked Washington as well as Oklahoma, Stanford and TCU, they should get an NIT bid Sunday evening.
