Childress man fires shots at victim in east Lubbock County

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Childress man is behind bars for allegedly shooting at a Good Samaritan Friday afternoon.

Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies and Idalou Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired near County Road 3700 and Highway 62/82.

The victim stopped to offer help to what was believed to be a stranded driver. At first, the motorist declined help, then changed his mind and asked the victim to stay in case he needed a ride. The suspect returned to his car, retrieved two pistols and fired them at least eight times. The victim was not injured.

An Idalou Police Officer arrested the suspect, 39-year-old Oran Starkey of Childress. He is in the Lubbock County Jail accused of attempted murder.
