LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech Football's season opener against SMU has been moved to Sun., Sept. 5, and will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN360.com. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Jones AT&T Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 4.
"This move gives our program national exposure early in the season," Texas Tech Athletics Director Gerald Myers said. "It also gives us the opportunity to kick off Coach (Tommy) Tuberville's era in front of a national audience. We appreciate ESPN for giving us this opportunity and look forward to our game against SMU."
The Red Raiders and Mustangs made a similar adjustment to their schedules in 2007, when their season opener was moved to Labor Day for an ESPN broadcast in Dallas.
The game is the second nationally televised game on Texas Tech's schedule as the Sept. 18 home contest against traditional rival Texas is slated for 7 p.m. on ABC/ESPN.
